15 SHOCKING CELEBRITY WEIGHT CHANGES

Weight. This is such a super sensitive topic for many people, celebrities included…no matter how “perfect” we may think their lives are, they suffer from a lot of the same insecurities as everyone else.

Granted they have access to the best trainers, chefs, and nutritionists, but that doesn’t exclude them from the pressures of always being at your best.

AND let’s not forget they have cameras on them practically 24/7. Not only does their weight tend to fluctuate due to life’s stresses, lack of control of your eating habits, pregnancy, etc., but sometimes they put the strain on their bodies on purpose.

Example #1: A movie role.
Jared Leto gained a whopping 67 lbs. for the role of Mark David Chapman (who was the killer of the beloved John Lennon) in “Chapter 27.” Leto has said he would never gain that much weight again for a role and called it “a stupid thing to do.” He suffered from gout and immediately went on a liquid diet to get back to his normal weight. He said it took him close to a year to feel normal again. And true, he never gained that much weight again, but about 6 years later he lost 40 lbs. for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club.”

Speaking of “Dallas Buyers Club,” Matthew McConaughey loss 38 lbs for his role as Ron Woodroof who was an AIDS patient who’s story became widespread because he smuggled in unapproved meds to treat the symptoms caused by the disease. He said the weight loss caused him to have much less energy than what he was used to. He credits the shrinkage to cardio and diet. Kudos to you for the dedication Matthew!

Oh Rob! Robert Kardashian Jr. has had some MAJOR weight gain over the past 7 years or so. On the uber popular E! reality show his sisters and mom have mentioned him being depressed and staying in his room for hours, even days at a time. Rob hasn’t publicly addressed the issue(s). We do know that for one reason or another, he did not attend sister Kim’s 2014 wedding to rapper Kanye West. It was reported that there was an argument between the siblings, but others said he wasn’t up to being photographed. Sad. We’re rooting for you Rob!

From Chicago, Illinois to being a singer on Disney Cruise Lines, to the American Idol stage, to major motion picture Dream Girls, and coveted title of Academy Award Winner, Jennifer Hudson has come a loooong way! Not just in her career, but in her journey to becoming physically fit. And we aren’t the only ones who noticed. In 2010 she became the spokesperson for Weight Watchers. Over the years, she’s lost a reported 90 lbs. Wow! You look great Jennifer! Keep up the good work!

Like Jennifer Hudson, Raven Symone went out for a role in Dreamgirls. Although she didn’t get it, she’s had her share of time in the spotlight, starting at 4 years old on The Cosby Show, various roles throughout the years, including her own show on Disney, “That’s So Raven.” Recently she even hosted on ABC’s “The View.” Her weight has fluctuated throughout the years but these days she’s looking nice and healthy.

Speaking of “The View,” one of the original four hosts, is still one of the more shocking celebrity weight changes. Star has admitted to having gastric bypass surgery, but only after keeping it a secret for quite some time. She said she initially kept it a secret because she was afraid to fail in front of the public. Star says it really wasn’t a choice because she “wasn’t full figured [or] plus-sized. I was morbidly obese.” She went from a size 26 to a 6, but in 2010 she was diagnosed with heart disease so she maintains healthy eating habits and works out regularly. Star’s message: “Eat less and move more, It’s what saved my life.”

Let me just say…YES KELLY!!! Ms. Osbourne has come a VERY long way. Kelly says she was bullied and always had self-esteem issues. At one point she knew she had to make some changes. Now she’s dedicated to working out and feeling better about herself. She says she makes it a point not to compare herself to other women’s bodies. She also says her family and friends are very supportive and they even work out together.

Wowsa! Back in 2011, rapper 50 Cent loss a SUBSTANTIAL amount of weight for his role in “Things Fall Apart.” He loss 54 lbs. as he geared up to play lead character Deon. He said he was on a nine week liquid diet and did 3 hours of cardio on the treadmill each day. When he posted the pictures on social media, they were reposted millions of times as fans were shocked at the drastic change. But 50 reassured them, saying, ”I’ve been eating. I’ll be back in shape in no time.” …and indeed, as promised, he was back up to his muscular beefy physique in no time!

Joseph Cartenga, better known as rapper Fat Joe, has gotten serious about his weight loss over the last few years. Back in 2011, Joe revealed himself in the music video for “Drop A Body.” He lost close to 90 lbs. In February 2000 he lost close friend and fellow rapper Big Pun to a heart attack. At the time of his death, at his highest weight, Pun weighed VERY close to 700 lbs. Such a tragedy. Big Pun was just 28 years old. RIP. We salute you Fat Joe for making an effort to maintain your health.

Iconic actor Tom Hanks is known for his commitment to his roles. Castaway in 2000 was no different. In fact, he filmed the movie in two parts. The first half of the movie he weighed about 222 lbs., and then for the second half, over a year later, he weighed 169 lbs. His focus and results were so well respected that not only did he take home a Golden Globe for the role, but his diet of crabs, coconut and coconut milk was coined The Coconut Diet/The Castaway Diet.

Jersey Shore was all the rage back in 2009. It’s viewership was off the charts for MTV. One of the biggest stars of the show was Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. Nicole mentioned her weight a few times, but it wasn’t until the show went off air and she had her first child that the reality star began to slim down. When asked how she lost the 40 lbs. she said, “…just by really wanting to–it’s as simple as that.” Now after baby #2, Nicole is back down to 99 lbs. After two babies, she’s the best she’s ever looked. If she can do it, you can too!

Another star who is known for her weight loss in movie roles is Renee Zellweger. For “Bridget Jones’ Diary” in 2001 she lost 30 lbs., but then regained the weight again in 2004 for the sequel, “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.” Last year she was on the red carpet for the 21st annual ELLE Women in Hollywood Awards and she shocked everyone, but not because of her weight loss, but because of the plastic surgery on her face. It’s reported that she had Botox injections, a facelift, a nose job, etc. etc. But either way, the body was on point.

Christina Aguilera’s weight has yo-yo’d up and down over the years, but one of her biggest transitions was in 2013 while she was a judge on “The Voice.” She credited her weight loss to yoga and staying active. She said she cut down her alcohol intake and she avoided some of her favorite foods like corned beef and chocolate chip pancakes. She was reportedly the happiest she’s ever been with herself physically. Looking good and feeling better!

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal lost 30 lbs for his role as Lou Bloom in “Night Crawler.” He credits it to running 15 miles per day. He pulled through and made it happen for the role, but he says it took a toll on him physically as well as his social life. He says he was shocked at how much he lost, saying, “I don’t think I was aware until a few months ago and we were going through all the cuts, and you start to separate from the character and go ‘Wow,’ you know?”

Christian Bale has beefed it up for roles like that of Batman in “The Dark Knight,” and did some MAJOR shrinkage for his role in “The Machinist.” He lost a reported 63 lbs. You can actually see his bones. Christian says he dropped the weight by only eating an apple a day. Oh and a cup of coffee…EVERYDAY for several months. I cannot imagine! He also slimmed down to a shocking 121 lbs for his role in “The Fighter.” ..for the love of the craft…
